  4. Open the folder with extracted DLL file and the program’s that’s giving you the error installation folder side by side.

Method 7. Use System Restore

Sometimes, Windows errors occur due to wrong configurations of computer settings, installation and removal of many programs, accidental deletion of relevant files, or software errors. For this reason, if you know that VCRUNTIME140.dll is missing error started to appear recently and the software you’re trying to launch used to work perfectly before, you may want to use a system restore point.

The way a system restore works is that it sets your computer to a state snapshotted at a specific time in the past. This way, you can revert back changes made to your system that may be the cause of the said error.

Please note that system restore doesn’t affect your personal files, but it can uninstall apps that you have installed after creating a restore point as well as drivers and updates. Keep this in mind when choosing the restore point as it may uninstall the program you’re trying to run. You can read more about using System Restore in official Microsoft Support blog.

  1. Click on Windows search and type Control panel. Click on the matching result.
  2. Change the view of Control panel by selecting Large icons option in the View by settings. Then go to Recovery.
  3. Next, go to Open System Restore.
  4. Here, click Next, then put a tick next to Show more restore points. Now, choose a restore point from the provided list and click Next.
