Remove Yts.mx Ads (Virus Removal Guide 2022)

Yts.mx website triggers unexpected pop-up ads promoting potentially unwanted downloads and services

Yts.mx is a YIFY Torrents website that allows downloading various movies for free. Just like any other torrent site, this one provides options for illegal sharing of copyrighted content. Unfortunately, it is a well-known fact that downloads from such webpages can be highly dangerous, because the free pirated content often comes packed with malware infections, such as STOP/DJVU or other ransomware. It was also noticed that the domain triggers pop-up ads or causes redirects to suspicious third-party websites promoting questionable applications or services.

Sites like Yts.mx earn revenue by displaying ads in various formats, such as pop-ups. They are also known to cause unexpected redirects to third-party domains, for example, after clicking a download link. Failure to realize the risk behind such promotional content often results in installation of unwanted programs or even malware on the system. You must realize that the whole “free torrents” scheme isn’t exactly legal, therefore owners of such websites hardly care about your computer’s security, either. Therefore, we advise being extremely careful when browsing such sites, or avoid them altogether.

Redirects explained

During our visit to this particular torrent-providing domain, we have noticed that clicking the Download link for each movie title triggers a redirect in new tab that usually goes through velocecdn.com domain. The landing page almost always points to sites such as adult games, sometimes Aliexpress and also ExpressVPN page, which is heavily promoted by Yts.mx ads.

Please be extremely careful because torrent and online streaming websites cannot be trusted. Some examples of such sites include 1337x.to, gogoanime.com and Kissanime. If you ever notice a redirect to websites pushing various browser extensions or search tools, do not agree to install such items. Otherwise, you might get to know the headache of trying to identify version of Yahoo search virus or another search-promoting redirect virus. In addition, you might install software that serves ads or push notifications daily, which is a true annoyance for a computer user.

If you suspect that you have accidentally downloaded something via the said website, you should scan your system for potential threats and remove Yts.mx virus from the system. An excellent software for virus protection and removal is INTEGO Antivirus. For repairing virus damage and keeping computer’s performance excellent, we recommend downloading RESTORO, scanning your PC and applying suggested fixes.

Distribution of potentially unwanted programs and malware

We are going to share a couple of tips to avoid running into insecure websites and accidentally downloading potentially dangerous software. First, as we have already mentioned, you should stay away from clearly illegal websites. These websites concentrate on revenue generated by the visitors rather than their trust or security. Therefore, they might push and promote untrustworthy ad networks and third-party content that is hardly secure to explore. You can see some examples of ads triggered by this website below.

Screenshot of YTS.MX redirecting to website promoting Smarty web extension:

Another example of this website causing a redirect to online gaming sites.

Another redirect prompted by YTS.MX leads to a suspicious landing page offering a setup file.

Finally, here’s another example of browser extensions pushed via pop-up ads triggered by the said website.

Cybersecurity experts suggest avoiding installation of software promoted via annoying pop-up ads, especially those originating from illegal websites promoting copyright-protected content for free.

Next, if you find yourself on a website that ‘feels’ wrong, for example, it includes flashy headlines offering to install the software ‘of your lifetime’, one that will somehow improve your browsing or web searching experience, please take such offers with a grain of salt. Everyone knows the top three search engines in the world, and you do not need no browser extensions to redirect you to them.  Software like that is only made to collect information about your browsing habits and sell such data for third-parties. The same can be said about adware-type programs.

Finally, you should avoid downloading insecure or illegal content because it is against the law, and it can contain ‘invisible’ malware such as cryptocurrency miners or password-stealing Trojans. In the worst scenario, you might end up opening ransomware from such download, which will leave all of your precious files encrypted and impossible to open.
